Virginia Free: Rust Most Business Friendly Delegate
June 23, 2009(Herndon, VA) – The Virginia Foundation for Research and Economic Education (Virginia FREE) named Delegate Tom Rust the top business-friendly legislator in the Virginia House of Delegates for 2009. Out of 100 members, Rust was ranked first for his voting record, second on his stewardship in the House of Delegates, and was voted the 11th most effective member. He also had the single highest business rating for 2009.
“I’m happy to use my years of experience as an engineer and businessman to help keep jobs in Northern Virginia,” said Rust. “We need to maintain a business friendly environment to protect current jobs and attract new employers to the region.”
Tom Rust has served in the Virginia House of Delegates since 2002, and prior to that served as mayor of Herndon for 19 years. Rust received his bachelor’s in civil engineering from Virginia Tech with Masters from the University of Virginia and George Washington University. Rust is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Patton, Harris, Rust & Associates, a civil engineering firm.
Rust Ranks #1 in Virginia Ratings
September 17, 2008The Virginia Foundation for Research and Economic Education (Virginia FREE), a nonprofit and nonpartisan foundation, just released their “2008 Virginia General Assembly Incumbent Evaluations.” Delegate Tom Rust is ranked at number one in their “2008 Business Rating” and number one in thier “2008 Stweardship Rating” for the House of Delegates. In addition, Delegate Rust was tied for sixth in the category of “effectiveness” which measures “how effective each legislator is in accomplishing his or her objectives,” and his voting percentage was tied for number one at 93 percent. Virginia FREE is the oldest and most respected organization in the state dedicated to protecting and strengthening the state’s business climate. The Delegate evaluations were performed by about 100 Virginia FREE government affairs professionals.
Commenting on his ranking, Delegate Rust said, “I am very honored to have again been ranked very high in the evaluation. I am particularly proud of my ‘effectiveness’ rating and the only Delegates ranked higher than me were those with more than twice my tenure.”
Virginia FREE is committed to improving Virginia’s economy and business climate. Some of the issues which were important to Virgiia FREE were the homestead exemption, public sector collective bargaining, pay day lending, immigration, transportation, and economic development incentives.
